Most of our water supplies are now contaminated with micro plastics, found in the ocean along
with
water
used in our
daily lives. This issue is found all around the world affecting marine life along with our own
lives. The
main source of
these plastic particles come from single-use plastic bags and one-time-use plastic products.
Wastewater from
crowded
communities is the major root cause, which flushes the plastic particle contaminated water into
water
canals. Community
leaders are now more aware of this problem and have applied several policies to prevent this.
For
instance,
single-use
plastic bags and cups are banned in Chulalongkorn university and surrounding area. Despite these
efforts,
the
contamination of micro plastics continues to increase.
In this international Make-a-thon, young inventors will work in an international team to develop
a
device
that will
remove secondary micro plastics from a simulated water basin. The device will be automatic and
will
run on
battery. The
use of other sources of external power supply such as wind, solar and wave is highly encouraged
in
this
activity.
Participants will demonstrate their practical technique and skills to be further developed in
real
world
situations.
There are FOUR rounds that participants will follow through.
The participants work on online LMS, called myCourseVille https://www.mycourseville.com/
This is an individual work to prepare participants with concept, technique, design process and
evaluate
participants to
form an international team. The assignments are list below:
